Press Release Regarding the Clashes and Air Strikes in Libya
No: 276, 24 August 2014
We are following with concern the ongoing clashes in Libya, notably in Tripoli and Benghazi.
We regret the civilian casualties in the clashes, the destruction of Libya's infrastructure and the breaking out of a humanitarian crisis.
The numerous losses of lives occurred in the air strikes conducted in Benghazi, Derna and lastly around Tripoli are also saddening. The fact that the identity of military aircrafts conducting the attacks in question is not precisely known constitutes a serious cause of concern.
We call on all parties in brotherly Libya to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible by supporting the efforts of the UN, and we remind that disputes must be settled through dialogue. We condemn the acts of violence, the targeting of civilians and the airstrikes in question. We emphasize that the resolution of the problems in Libya can only be achieved by the will of brotherly Libyan people, not through foreign interventions.
